The crash occurred amidst jubilant scenes, with the vehicle striking a large group of fans. Ambulance officials reported that 20 people received treatment at the scene, while 27 were hospitalised. One child and one adult are in serious condition. Firefighters freed four individuals trapped beneath the car. Social media videos captured the chaos, showing fans hurled into the air upon impact.
As the vehicle came to a halt, enraged supporters surrounded it, smashing windows until police intervened to protect the driver. “We do not believe the incident was terrorism-related,” Merseyside Police confirmed, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause.
“We believe this to be an isolated incident, and we are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to it. The incident is not being treated as terrorism,” temporary Deputy Chief Constable Jenny Sims told reporters.
The parade, celebrating Liverpool’s first Premier League title since 2020, turned sombre as emergency services responded swiftly. Authorities urged witnesses to provide information to aid the investigation, emphasising support for the victims and their families.
“My thoughts are with all those injured or affected,” Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on X, calling the scenes “appalling” and saying he was being updated about the events.
