US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump turned the White House into a festive Halloween destination on Thursday, welcoming a long line of young trick-or-treaters for the annual celebration.
The first couple handed out giant Hershey bars stamped with the presidential seal, delighting children and parents who streamed through the decorated grounds.
At one point, President Trump paused to sign what appeared to be a golf ball for a teenage trick-or-treater, while also taking a moment to size up the crowd. “It’s a long line. It’s almost as big as the ballroom,” he joked to reporters.

A playful highlight came when three children arrived dressed as Trump, the First Lady, and “security” — a nod to Secret Service agents. Trump grinned, gave one of the kids a high-five, and encouraged them to turn around so the cameras could capture the costumes.
The festivities marked a festive pause in a packed diplomatic schedule. After wrapping up his Asia tour, Trump returned to Washington just in time for Halloween. His overseas trip included a stop in Malaysia, where he joined the signing of a peace declaration between Thailand and Cambodia.
In Japan, Trump met Sanae Takaichi — the country’s first female prime minister — before heading to South Korea for high-stakes talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In Busan, Trump and Xi agreed on several measures aimed at easing trade frictions and advancing cooperation on multiple fronts. Their meeting followed months of rising economic tensions, with both Washington and Beijing imposing restrictions on sensitive exports and threatening further penalties.
Halloween, celebrated every year on October 31, blends ancient pagan traditions, Christian observances and modern-day pop culture — and this year, its mix of costumes and candy brought a light-hearted break to the White House amid intense geopolitical developments.
