Chasing a challenging target, Rajasthan Royals began strongly with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson finding early rhythm. But just as their partnership began to flourish, misfortune struck—Samson, attempting a cut shot, missed and immediately clutched his side, retiring hurt with what appeared to be a rib injury. Riyan Parag came in but couldn’t make an impact, departing quickly.
Nitish Rana, however, took charge. Batting at No. 4, he kept the scoreboard ticking alongside Jaiswal. Despite their momentum, Delhi’s spinners clawed their way back into the contest, using the sluggish pitch to tighten the screws. At the second timeout, RR needed 73 from 36 balls.
Just when RR seemed to be swinging the game back in their favour with a few big overs, it was Mitchell Starc who turned the tide for DC. Defending just 8 in the final over, Starc delivered a masterclass in death bowling—nailing yorkers with pinpoint accuracy and taking the game into a Super Over.
In the tie-breaker, RR started brightly with two early boundaries and sat comfortably at 10/0 after three balls. But the tide turned sharply. A needless run-out sent Parag back to the dugout, and off the very next delivery, Jaiswal too was run-out attempting a tight second. RR could only muster 11.
In response, DC’s Tristan Stubbs and KL Rahul made light work of the chase. Facing Sandeep Sharma, who erred by bowling one slower ball too many into the pitch, the duo picked the gaps with ease. Stubbs finished the job with clinical precision, sealing a pulsating win and delivering DC two crucial points in a rollercoaster of a contest.
In the first innings, a spirited middle-order display led by captain Axar Patel and South Africa’s Tristan Stubbs helped Delhi Capitals post a competitive 188/5 against Rajasthan Royals. The hosts plundered 77 runs in the final five overs, giving their innings a decisive late push that could prove vital on a sluggish surface.
