Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday highlighted growing cooperation between India and the Nordic nations during the third India-Nordic Summit, with discussions focusing on innovation, research, skill development and economic growth.
Addressing a joint statement after the summit, Modi said shared democratic values and a common commitment to multilateralism continue to strengthen ties between the two sides.
“I am delighted to have participated in the 3rd India-Nordic Summit today. First of all, I express heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister of Norway for hosting this summit. I welcome all Nordic leaders here. Democracy, rule of law and our shared commitment to multilateralism make us natural partners,” Modi said.
The summit brought together leaders from Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. Discussions focused on talent mobility, technology partnerships, trade, investment and strengthening supply chains.
The meeting also aimed to expand cooperation through the India-EU Free Trade Agreement and the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement signed with Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
Modi arrived in Norway after concluding his engagements in Sweden. The visit marks the first trip by an Indian prime minister to Norway in 43 years.
After completing his Norway visit, Modi is scheduled to travel to Italy for the final leg of his multi-nation tour.
