Russian President Vladimir Putin referred to US President-elect Donald Trump as an “intelligent and experienced politician” who has the ability to find “solutions.” However, he also expressed doubts about Trump’s safety, stating that he did not believe the Republican leader was secure after surviving two assassination attempts.
In July, Trump narrowly avoided injury when a bullet grazed his ear at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Then, in September, a man was charged with attempted assassination after reportedly aiming a rifle at one of Trump’s golf courses in Florida.
Speaking to reporters in Kazakhstan after a summit, Putin suggested that things could improve once Trump takes office on January 20 next year, CNN reported.
Putin brought up the attacks on Trump, including one that occurred in July during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. There, a bullet grazed Trump’s ear, causing heavy bleeding, and the moment was caught on camera. A second incident happened in September at Trump’s Mar-A-Lago estate in Florida, when a man was arrested for allegedly aiming a rifle at one of Trump’s golf courses.
Putin described the newly-elected president as “intelligent” and “already quite experienced,” expressing belief that he would be able to find solutions. He acknowledged that Trump had faced significant challenges in securing a return to the White House, noting that “absolutely uncivilized means” were used against him, referring to the two assassination attempts during the campaign. Putin also expressed concern about Trump’s current safety.
Furthermore, Putin criticized the “humiliating and baseless” legal actions against Trump during the election campaign. He mentioned the June court ruling, which saw Trump convicted on all 34 counts of falsifying business records related to his hush money case, making him the first former US president to be found guilty of a felony.
