US President-elect Donald Trump on Monday pledged to impose a 25% tariff on all products from Mexico and Canada, and an additional 10% tariff on goods from China, citing illegal immigration and the trade of illicit drugs.
Taking to his account on Truth Social, Trump said that on his first day at the White House on January 20, he will sign several executive orders including the tariff on Canada and Mexico.

“On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% tariff on ALL products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders,” he wrote.
In another post moments later, the past and future president said he would also be slapping China with a 10 percent tariff, “above any additional Tariffs,” on all of its products entering the US in response to its failure to tackle fentanyl smuggling.

He further stated that the tariff will remain in effect until all the drugs and all “Illegal aliens” (illegal immigrants) will stop.
” Both Mexico and Canada have the absolute right and power to easily solve this long simmering problem. We hereby demand that they use this power, and until such time that they do, it is time for them to pay a very big price!” he added.
Tariffs are a key part of Trump’s economic agenda, with the Republican president-elect vowing wide-ranging duties on allies and adversaries alike while he was on the campaign trail ahead of his November 5 victory.
