The Government Of Common Sense, Donald Trump 2.0 Starts A Decisive Presidency

Date:

In his inaugural address on Monday, newly sworn-in United States President Donald Trump declared illegal immigration at the US-Mexico border a national emergency. He announced plans to invoke the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to target foreign gang members in the US. This legal authority was last used during World War II to detain non-citizens of Japanese, German, and Italian descent in internment camps.

Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States during the 60th Presidential Inauguration at the US Capitol in Washington, DC. US Chief Justice John
Roberts administered the oath to Trump.

Prior to Trump’s swearing-in, JD Vance was sworn-in as US Vice-President. Earlier, Trump alongside outgoing US President Joe Biden arrived at US Capitol from White House for the swearing-in ceremony.

Earlier Vice President Kamala Harris accompanied VP elect JD Vance to the Capitol.

Top Updates

    • In his inauguration address, Trump vowed that “the golden age of America begins right now.” He is expected to sign a slew of executive actions, including kicking off a process to end birthright citizenship and declaring a national emergency on the US-Mexico border, according to incoming White House officials. Trump also plans to pardon some January 6 rioters on Day 1, according to US media reports.
    • Donald Trump said he is returning as the 47th president “confident and optimistic that we are at the start of a thrilling new era of national success.”
    • Prime Minister PM Modi congratulated Trump after he was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.

  • Donald Trump is only the second U.S. President in history, after Grover Cleveland in 1893, to return to office after being voted out.
  • Earlier, a severe cold front had forced Trump’s inauguration indoors. Forecasters predict the coldest inauguration day in 40 years. Instead of taking the oath on the steps of the Capitol with thousands of people on the National Mall, Trump and Vice President JD Vance will took their oaths inside the Capitol’s Rotunda, a move similar to Ronald Reagan’s 1985 inauguration.
  • In his inauguration address, Trump vowed that “the golden age of America begins right now.” He listed his priorities — on trade, immigration and national security — while criticizing President Joe Biden, who sat nearby, and declaring “America’s decline is over.” He also recalled the assassination attempt last year that nearly claimed his life and said he was “saved by God to Make America Great Again.
  • Trump has pledged to take swift action by signing numerous executive orders to implement broad changes, undoing much of Joe Biden’s work. He argues that these steps are essential to “Make America Great Again.”
  • Now back in the Oval Office with greater power than before, Trump’s victory concludes a remarkable journey in which he overcame two assassination attempts and a criminal conviction. His win included sweeping every key swing state, and his Republican Party now controls both the House and the Senate, giving Trump the authority to push his agenda without significant obstacles.
