Minister Schallenberg, in his remarks, praised Jaishankar’s insights and stressed the importance of maintaining robust foreign relations, particularly in challenging times. He noted that effective diplomacy requires ongoing engagement with key partners beyond Europe, a sentiment that aligns with Austria’s approach to international relations.
On the occasion of our annual 🇦🇹 ambassadors conference, great to hear from my good friend @DrSJaishankar.
In these challenging times, effective foreign policy relies on continuous engagement with key partners outside of Europe more than ever. #BOKO2024 pic.twitter.com/85GiuEJ339

The conference follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic visit to Austria on July 9-10, 2024, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 41 years. This visit marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations and aimed to elevate bilateral ties to new levels.
Both PM Modi and Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer emphasized the shared values that underpin their relationship, including democracy, freedom, and international peace. They reiterated their commitment to a rules-based international order, with the United Nations Charter at its core, and highlighted the historical and cultural connections that have long strengthened the bond between India and Austria.
