External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held productive talks with Maxime Prevot, Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, on Monday, underscoring the close and friendly ties between India and Belgium. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors and reaffirming shared commitments in the fight against terrorism.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Jaishankar expressed his appreciation for Belgium’s support and solidarity in combating terrorism. “Pleased to meet DPM & FM @prevotmaxime at the start of my visit to Belgium. Welcomed Belgium’s support and solidarity in combatting terrorism. Appreciated the strong momentum of our bilateral engagement and the India-EU partnership,” he wrote.

The External Affairs Minister also emphasized the wide-ranging nature of the discussions, covering trade, investment, technology, defence and security, pharmaceuticals, clean energy, and mobility. These areas represent the growing multifaceted cooperation that characterizes India-Belgium relations.
Jaishankar is on an official visit to France, the European Union, and Belgium from June 8 to 14, aiming to further deepen bilateral relations and inject fresh impetus into cooperation across diverse sectors. India and Belgium have longstanding ties that extend beyond diplomacy into strong economic partnerships and vibrant people-to-people connections. Current collaborations include significant engagement in trade and investment, green energy initiatives, technology development, pharmaceutical innovation, and the diamond industry.
