External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Winston Peters in Delhi on Thursday, thanking him for New Zealand’s support and solidarity in the wake of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
The meeting, which comes shortly after New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Luxon’s official visit to India, focused on reviewing the progress made in bilateral ties and reinforcing mutual commitment to regional stability.
“Delighted to meet DPM & FM @winstonpeters of New Zealand this evening in Delhi,” Jaishankar wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Thank New Zealand for its support & solidarity on the Pahalgam terrorist attack.”
Jaishankar noted that the two sides took stock of developments following Luxon’s visit and emphasized the growing importance of India-New Zealand collaboration. “Agreed that in a more volatile & uncertain world, it’s important that India & New Zealand collaborate closely for a rules-based, peaceful, stable & prosperous Indo-Pacific region,” he added.
Winston Peters’ visit to India follows a two-day trip to Kathmandu, where he was received by Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai and other senior officials. His arrival in New Delhi was warmly acknowledged by India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
Earlier in the day, the External Affairs Ministry extended a warm welcome to New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Winston Peters, upon his arrival in New Delhi for a two-day official visit.
