External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held wide-ranging talks with the UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Saturday, highlighting deepening bilateral ties and expressing gratitude for Britain’s strong condemnation of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

Welcoming Lammy on his second visit to India, Jaishankar acknowledged the UK government’s firm stance against the Pahalgam attack and reaffirmed India’s uncompromising policy on terrorism. “I thank the Government of the United Kingdom for the strong condemnation of the barbaric terrorist attack in Pahalgam… We practice a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and expect our partners to understand it,” said Jaishankar during the joint engagement.
He further added, “We will never countenance perpetrators of evil being put at par with its victims.” His remarks underscored India’s consistent stand against the normalization or justification of terrorist violence.

Jaishankar also noted that Lammy’s visit provided an opportune moment to review the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. “Your visit gives us an occasion to assess our strategic ties, which I believe have strengthened across all sectors in recent times,” he said.
One of the highlights of the discussions was the recent conclusion of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the Double Contribution Convention. Jaishankar described the developments as a “milestone” in the partnership, stating, “It will not only propel our two-way trade and investment but will also positively impact strategic elements of our bilateral cooperation. It will strengthen supply and value chains between our economies.”

UK Foreign Secretary Lammy, is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Modi separately during his visit. According to the British High Commission, discussions will cover the broadening of economic ties and migration cooperation.
