Former PepsiCo. CEO Indra Nooyi is being considered to head the World Bank as president if reports are to be believed.
According to The New York Times, several people familiar with the process have reported that Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter and the White House adviser floated Nooyi’s name as a potential successor to Jim Yong Kim.
However, the reports state that the process is still in its initial stages.
Kim resigned earlier in January to join a private firm and his resignation goes into effect .in February. Ivanka Trump is one of the three people three people conducting the search for a successor. The other two being Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney.
In August 2018, Ivanka Trump has referred to Nooyi as a ‘mentor’ and an ‘inspiration. “Indra, you are a mentor + inspiration to so many, myself included. I am deeply grateful for your friendship,” she wrote on Twitter.
The great @IndraNooyi is stepping down as PepsiCo CEO, after 12 yrs.
Indra, you are a mentor + inspiration to so many, myself included. I am deeply grateful for your friendship. Thank you for your passionate engagement on issues that benefit the people of this country, and beyond— Ivanka Trump (@IvankaTrump) August 7, 2018
It is, however, unclear if Nooyi would accept this position. Nooyi stepped down from her job as PepsiCo’s chief executive officer in October. She led the snacks and beverage company for 12 years.
