Gurugram Roads Remain Unswept As Civic Body Fails To Clear Dues

Date:

Gurugram: The residents of the millennium city are suffering due to failure in the clearing of fuel bill payments of 13 road sweeping machines by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), at least 200 kilometers of Gurugram roads have remained unswept since Friday.

According to a report by the Hindustan Times, the civic body owes a total of ₹16 lakh to several petrol pumps, and the amount has been pending for 12 months.

Reportedly, the officials further expressed concern over the accumulation of dust on the roads of Golf Course Extension, Southern Peripheral, Sohna Road, and Dwarka Expressway.

MCG officials quoted by HT stated that the petrol pump owners have declined to refuel the machines until the pending dues are cleared by the authorities. The situation is likely to take a serious turn as the peak pollution season (around Diwali) is set to begin in a month.

A senior MCG official while talking to the Hindustan Times added that the dues were cleared until last year by the health wing. Further due to the transfer of the officials from the wing, the matter was transferred to different departments, leading to confusion and miscommunication.

The official further assured that the payments are likely to be cleared by Tuesday and machines will be back on the roads. A senior official from the Swachh Bharat wing claimed that the reasons cited by MCG were genuine and they are in process of clearing the payments.
