India has pledged to deepen its relationship with the United States following Donald Trump’s return to the White House. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized the significance of the India-U.S. relationship, calling it “very special and multifaceted.”
Jaiswal addressing a press briefing stated that PM Modi conveyed India’s eagerness to collaborate closely with the new administration, focusing on mutual objectives such as global peace, stability, and prosperity. Jaiswal reiterated that India views this partnership as pivotal, highlighting a shared commitment to advance these global goals for the benefit of both nations.

Addressing the longstanding H-1B visa issue, Jaiswal noted that mobility and migration are integral aspects of the India-U.S. relationship, with many Indian professionals and students contributing significantly to the American workforce and education sectors. He expressed India’s intent to engage in productive dialogue on these matters.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promptly congratulated President-elect Trump on his victory through social media platform X, and further reinforced India’s support through a direct phone call.

Donald Trump was elected the 47th President of the United States on Wednesday, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in a highly contested 2024 election. Trump secured a decisive majority, winning all seven swing states and solidifying his path to the White House.
