India on Tuesday welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, expressing appreciation for the diplomatic efforts led by the United States and Qatar to bring the warring sides to the negotiating table.
In an official statement released, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reiterated India’s longstanding position that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolve tensions in the Middle East. “We welcome reports of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel and the role played by the US and Qatar in bringing it about,” the statement read.
The MEA also acknowledged overnight developments, including U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and Iran’s retaliatory attacks on American military bases in Qatar. “While we remain deeply concerned about the prospects for overall and sustained regional security and stability, we wish to reiterate that there is no alternative to dialogue and diplomacy to address and resolve the multiple conflicts in the region,” the ministry added.

India also emphasized its willingness to contribute to peace-building efforts in the region. “India stands ready to play its part in these efforts and hopes that all concerned parties will work towards sustained peace and stability,” the statement concluded.
The ceasefire, which appears to have been brokered in the aftermath of a dangerous escalation in the region, follows intense diplomatic engagement. US President Donald Trump announced via his Truth Social platform that Iran and Israel agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire,” hours after Tehran launched retaliatory strikes on American base in Qatar after US strike on Iran’s Nuclear sites. Trump noted that both nations may engage in “final blows” before the truce formally takes effect on Tuesday.
The ceasefire comes as a major relief to the international community, which had been watching the conflict spiral into a potentially wider war with global implications. For India, which has thousands of nationals in the region and deep strategic and economic ties with both the Gulf and Israel, the de-escalation offers a vital window for continued diplomacy and humanitarian coordination.
