New Delhi: In a shocking incident, Indian-origin student, Akul Dhawan, lost his life succumbing to hypothermia near a US club that had denied him entry.
According to the Champaign County Coroner’s Office in Illinois, Dhawan, discovered deceased last month, passed away due to hypothermia compounded by ‘acute alcohol intoxication and prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures, significantly contributing to his demise.’
As per reports, on January 20, Dhawan had gone out with friends for drinks near the university campus in Urbana, Illinois. Despite attempts, club staff denied him entry. Subsequently, he vanished, prompting numerous unanswered calls, leading his friend to alert campus police.
The following morning, a university employee notified authorities of a “man on the back porch of a building,” who was already deceased upon discovery, as confirmed by the police.
Law enforcement indicates that current evidence aligns with the preliminary assessment that Mr. Dhawan’s passing was accidental, with no evidence of foul play.
Akul Dhawan, a freshman at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, pursued robotics within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Having celebrated his 18th birthday in September the previous year, Dhawan obtained his high school diploma from Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, California. He also pursued Computer Science at the College of San Mateo.
Reportedly, he had just commenced his first week back at college after the winter break.
