Confirming his arrival, Singh posted on X, saying, “Arrived in the historic city of Cairo as special representative of Prime Minister @narendramodi to attend the Gaza Peace Summit at Sharm el-Sheikh.”
The summit, hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, aims to consolidate a lasting ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and promote long-term peace and stability in the Middle East. According to the Egyptian Presidency, leaders from over 20 countries will participate in the meeting to advance regional security and humanitarian efforts.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the implementation of the first phase of the peace plan brokered by President Trump.
In a post on his official X handle, he wrote, “We welcome the agreement on the first phase of President Trump’s peace plan. This is also a reflection of the strong leadership of PM Netanyahu. We hope the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza will bring respite to them and pave the way for lasting peace.”
The United Nations has also confirmed the participation of Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, whose spokesperson stated, “The Secretary-General is travelling to Egypt to attend, on Monday, the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit for Peace. He is expected back at UN Headquarters on Wednesday.”
The ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas—mediated by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United States—recently came into effect after extensive negotiations in Sharm El-Sheikh.
Under the first phase of the Gaza Peace Plan, Israel is expected to withdraw troops from Gaza City, Rafah, Khan Younis, and the northern regions, open five aid crossings, and facilitate the release of hostages and prisoners.
