On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed a new chapter in space exploration, announcing that India’s ISRO will join hands with Japan’s JAXA for the ambitious Chandrayaan-5 mission.
The collaboration marks a significant step in deepening Indo-Japanese ties beyond Earth, aiming for greater strides on the lunar frontier.
“We welcome the collaboration between ISRO and JAXA for the Chandrayaan-5 mission. Our active participation has gone beyond the limits of the earth and will become a symbol of mankind’s progress in space,” PM Modi said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the collaboration between India’s ISRO and Japan’s JAXA for the Chandrayaan-5 mission during a joint press briefing with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo.
Emphasising the strength of their partnership, Modi said that vibrant democracies like India and Japan are “natural partners” in building a better future. “We agree that as two of the world’s largest economies and thriving democracies, our partnership is vital not only for our nations but also for global peace and security,” he noted.
Describing his talks with Ishiba as “productive” and “purposeful,” Modi highlighted the growing convergence between New Delhi and Tokyo on space exploration and broader strategic cooperation.
In the joint statement released by both the Prime Ministers, the focus remained on the strengthening of economic cooperation and security cooperation between India and Japan.
The Prime Minister said that India and Japan had established the foundation for a new chapter in their “special strategic and global partnership”, and outlined a roadmap for the next decade.
“In the centre of our vision lie investment, innovation, economic security, environment, technology, health, mobility, people-to-people exchanges,” PM Modi said.
“We have set a goal of investment of 10 Trillion Yen from Japan in India in the next 10 years,” PM Modi said during the joint briefing, adding that special emphasis would be laid on connecting both countries’ small and medium enterprises and startups,” he further said.
