Italian PM Giorgia Meloni Splits With Partner Of 10 Years: A Look At Their Journey

Date:

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced her separation from partner Andrea Giambruno, who recently faced backlash for making sexist comments on air. In a social media post, Meloni stated, “My relationship with Andrea Giambruno, which lasted almost 10 years, ends here,” explaining that their paths had diverged for some time.

Giambruno is a news program presenter at Mediaset, part of the MFE media group owned by the family of the late Silvio Berlusconi, a former prime minister and an ally of Meloni.

Andrea Giambruno Draws Criticism For Sexist Comments

During the week, another Mediaset show aired off-air excerpts from Giambruno’s program, revealing his use of foul language and inappropriate advances toward a female colleague.

In one instance, he tells her, “Why didn’t I meet you before?” In a more explicit recording aired on Thursday, Giambruno brags about an affair and tells female colleagues that they can work for him if they participate in group sex.

Giambruno had previously faced criticism in August for victim-blaming comments after a gang rape case, where he said, “If you go dancing, you have every right to get drunk – there shouldn’t be any kind of misunderstanding and any kind of problem – but if you avoid getting drunk and losing your senses, you might also avoid running into certain problems and coming across a wolf.”

Following the gang rape case comments, Meloni had defended herself by saying she shouldn’t be judged for her partner’s comments and that she would not respond to questions about his behaviour in the future.

Giorgia Meloni’s Heartfelt Wish For Long-Term Partner & Daughter

Glambruno and Meloni are not married and have been long-term partners. They have a seven-year-old daughter named Ginevra. Meloni, in her statement about their split, expressed her intent to defend their past, their friendship, and most importantly, their seven-year-old daughter. She made a heartfelt commitment to safeguard her daughter’s well-being.

Born in Rome in 1977, Meloni began her political journey at 15 by joining the youth wing of the Italian Social Movement (MSI). She crossed paths with Giambruno, born in Milan in 1981, in 2015 during his tenure as a writer for a television program in which Meloni was featured.
