J&K opens for tourists; head to these locations for a perfect holiday

Jammu & Kashmir has always enthralled tourists from all over the world. Considered a heaven on earth, the valley has its own charm coupled with beauty, majestic landscapes and a vibrant social diaspora. The central theme of many a Bollywood movies and songs, Kashmir has been a sought-after destination for decades now.

Unfortunately, with the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and India, abrogation of Article 370 and the subsequent ban on travel and other restrictions, the now union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been in the focus for the not so happy reasons.
But now, with the lifting of the ban for tourists, life in the valley seems all set to return to normalcy.

So, what are the main attractions in Jammu & Kashmir? Here is a perfect itinerary that can help you plan a trip to the wondrous valley.

Jammu – Being the doorway to the Kashmir valley, Jammu is a good destination to start with. Connected by all means of transport, it is one of the most beautiful destinations to visit in India. The place is not only known for its attractive scenic charm, but also for being the start to experience the rest of the valley.

Srinagar – Known for its natural beauty, gigantic mountain spread, the majestic Dal Lake and the houseboats, Srinagar is one of the most popular places among the tourists.

Pahalgam & Gulmarg – Next on the list can be Pahalgam and Gulmarg. It is a hill station known for its snow-clad slopes. Ideal for skiing in winters.

Sonmarg – Located in the Ganderbal district of J&K, Sonmarg is about 85 kms away from Kashmir and is known for its snow-capped mountains. Many a Bollywood movies have been shot here.

Lolab Valley – this is how close one can get to the traditional living style of Kashmir. Laden with natural beauty and warmth, hospitable locals, this untouched secret is perfect for a getaway. Wooden houses surrounded by fields and Himalayas as the backdrop – Lolab valley is magnificent. It is 114 kms from Srinagar.

Watlab – Watlab is situated on the Sopore-Bandipore road, about 56 km from Srinagar.
It has the beautiful Wular Lake, that is a huge, pristine water body. It has a forest rest house situated amongst beautiful apple orchards that one can stay in.

Karnah – Located at the foot hills of the Shams Bri and Krannu mountains, Karnah village has its share of enormous forts, palaces, statues, weapons and utensils found here after excavation. From Kishtwar, Karnah is around 86km.
Karnah is located at the furthest corner of Kashmir so make sure you have the requisite permissions to go there.

Jammu and Kashmir, the gorgeous land of houseboats, shikaras, snow clad mountains, shrines, natural landscape and the warmth of its people – is unparalleled. A visit to see the place in real should be a must.
