Karnataka CM Yediyurappa wins confidence motion by voice vote

Bengaluru: Newly-sworn in Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday won the confidence motion by voice vote in the state Assembly.

Moving the trust vote, he said he will not be involved in vindictive politics and requested Opposition’s cooperation. “Forget and forgive is something I believe in. I love people who oppose me as well,” he said.

While Congress leader Siddaramaiah said: “We discussed HD Kumaraswamy’s confidence motion over 4 days. I too participated in that and I don’t wish to speak about it. I could’ve spoken about circumstances under which Yediyurappa became CM. I wish him well and welcome his assurance that he’ll work for people.”

Meanwhile, after the Karnataka CM prove the majority in the house, Karnataka Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar tendered his resignation from the post.

The trust vote comes a day after eleven rebel lawmakers of the Congress and three from HD Kumaraswamy’s Janata Dal (Secular) were disqualified by Karnataka Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar.

Following the disqualification of the 14 lawmakers, the majority mark is reduced in the assembly which is in the reach of BJP.

Meanwhile, ahead of the crucial trust vote, Yediyurappa offered prayers at a temple in Bengaluru. He will table the confidence motion in the assembly.

All the lawmakers have been disqualified from the assembly till the end of its term, which means by-elections will take place in all 16 constituencies.
