Lok Sabha Polls: Phase 5 Records 57.47% Voter Turnout | TOP UPDATES


New Delhi: The fifth phase of the 18th Lok Sabha Elections 2024 started at 7 AM on Monday, with voters from 49 Lok Sabha constituencies across six states and two Union Territories cast their votes. In total, 695 candidates are in the fray in Phase 5. 


  • The fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections for 49 parliamentary constituencies saw a cumulative voter turnout of 57.47%, as per the data shared by the Election Commission.
  • According to the poll body, West Bengal recorded the highest voter turnout (73.00%), followed by Ladakh (67.15%), Jharkhand (63.00%), Odisha (60.72%), Uttar Pradesh (57.79%), Jammu and Kashmir (54.49%), Bihar (52.60%) and Maharashtra (48.88%).
  • RajKummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor turned up at their respective polling stations in Mumbai to cast their vote for the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
  • Actor Akshay Kumar cast his vote and showed the indelible ink mark on his finger after casting his vote at a polling booth in Mumbai. He says, “…I want my India to be developed and strong. I voted keeping that in mind. India should vote for what they deem is right…I think voter turnout will be good…”

States and Constituencies Going to Polls:

In this phase, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Ladakh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal will be up for polls.

Jammu & Kashmir: Baramulla
Ladakh: Ladakh
Jharkhand: Chatra, Kodarma, and Hazaribagh 
Bihar: Saran, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, Hajipur (SC) 
Odisha: Bolangir, Bargarh, Sundargarh, Aska, and Kandhamal 
West Bengal: Bangaon, Barrackpur, Howrah, Uluberia, Srerampur, Hooghly, and Arambagh
Uttar Pradesh: Rae Bareli, Amethi, Mohanlalganj (SC), Lucknow, Jalaun, Jhansi, Hamirpur, Banda, Fatehpur, Kaushambi (SC), Barabanki (SC), Faizabad, Kaiserganj, Gonda
Maharashtra: Mumbai North, Mumbai North-West, Mumbai North-East, Mumbai North-Central, Mumbai South, Mumbai South-Central, Kalyan, Dhule, Dindori, Nashik, Palghar, Thane, Bhiwand

Phase 5 of the Lok Sabha elections features several high-profile candidates. Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Rae Bareli, with Smriti Irani vying for Amethi and Rajnath Singh from Lucknow. Karan Bhushan Singh is in the race in Kaiserganj, while Rohini Acharya represents Saran in Bihar. Chirag Paswan is a prominent candidate in Hajipur, and Piyush Goyal is contesting from Mumbai North. Arvind Sawant is running from Mumbai South, and Ujjwal Nikam is competing in Mumbai North-Central. Additionally, Omar Abdullah is a significant candidate from Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir.

The previous four phases of the elections saw voter turnout percentages of 66.1%, 66.7%, 65.6%, and 67.2%, respectively. With the completion of the fourth phase, voting has concluded for 428 seats. The remaining phases will take place on May 25th, and June 1st, with results set to be declared on June 4th.
