Middle East Crisis: Amid Speculations Of Attack On Israel, US Moves Warships Near The Region

Tel Aviv: Amid tensions between Iran and Israel, the US has moved its warships into position in the region. The Pentagon has been working to bolster air defences for the US troops stationed in Iraq and Syria who came under attack by Iran-backed proxy forces over 100 times between October and February as per a CNN report.

In light of the possibility that Iran may strike Israel with over 100 drones and several dozen missiles directed at military objectives, the US State Department has advised Americans living in Israel not to venture outside of major cities. The US President stated on Friday that he anticipated an attack on Israel by Iran eventually. In defence of Israel, Biden asserted that Iran would fail and that the US would stand by and defend Israel.

Following an attack on Iran’s embassy compound in Damascus last week that resulted in the deaths of six additional officers and a senior commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ overseas Quds Force, Israel has braced for an attack by Iran or its proxies. Amid growing tensions between Iran and Israel, India has issued a travel advisory to its people about visiting both countries.

“All Indians are advised not to travel to Iran or Israel until further notice, given the current situation in the region,” the Ministry of External Affairs stated in a statement. It is requested that everyone currently living in Iran or Israel contact the Indian embassies in those countries and register. Additionally, they are asked to take the greatest safety precautions and limit their activity.” Russia, Poland, France, Germany, and other nations have also issued travel advisories to their citizens advising against visiting the area.

According to a story from The Times of Israel, the Lebanese militia known as Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, launched a flurry of missiles towards Northern Israel on Friday. About forty rockets were fired from Lebanon towards northern Israel, according to the Israel Defense Forces. The IDF claimed to have also shot down two Hezbollah-launched drones carrying explosives.

Beginning on October 8, 2023, Hezbollah-led troops have been bombing Israeli villages and military facilities along the border almost every day since its ally Hamas carried out a massacre in Israel that claimed 1,200 lives. Israel has promised to destroy the Hamas battalions in Gaza after the event. Palestinian health officials have reported that the number of deaths in the protracted conflict has risen to above 30,000.
