It was Ryan Rickelton who set the tone early for MI, playing a fiery knock to bring up a swift half-century. His aggression at the top of the order laid the foundation for the team’s strong total. Suryakumar Yadav, already in stellar form, followed suit with a crucial innings, helping him surpass the 500-run mark for the season and become the highest run-scorer of IPL 2025.
While the top order provided solid momentum, the lower middle order, led by Naman Dhir and Corbin Bosch, contributed vital cameos, guiding MI past the 200-run barrier with some quick scoring in the latter stages of the innings.
Chasing a challenging total, LSG faced an early setback when their in-form batter, Aiden Markram, was dismissed within the powerplay. Despite a couple of explosive knocks from Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh, who attempted to keep LSG’s chase alive with some attacking cricket, the duo couldn’t convert their starts into big scores.
As the pressure mounted, MI’s bowlers took control. Reece Topley’s excellent spell helped break the back of LSG’s middle order, while Trent Boult added three wickets to his tally, including the key dismissals of Pooran and Pant. But it was Jasprit Bumrah’s masterclass with the ball that sealed the win for MI. The ace pacer was simply outstanding, finishing with four wickets and delivering a game-changing performance that left LSG struggling to build partnerships.
Earlier in the first innings, Ryan Rickelton’s explosive start and Suryakumar Yadav’s masterful middle-over control helped Mumbai Indians pile up a commanding 215/7 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
