Kathmandu: Nepalese authorities on Tuesday issued a fresh flood alert across several districts in eastern, central and western Nepal, warning residents near rivers and other vulnerable areas to remain vigilant as water levels are expected to rise.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) warned of a high possibility of flash floods in Nuwakot and Rasuwa, while a moderate risk was forecast across eastern and central districts including Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Khotang, Okhaldhunga, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Kavrepalanchok, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kathmandu and Dhading.
The western region alert covers Gorkha, Lamjung, Dolpa, Rukum East, Rukum West, Jajarkot, Darchula, Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Doti, Kailali and Kanchanpur.
The warning comes as Nepal continues to recover from devastating floods and flash floods that have killed hundreds and damaged homes, roads, bridges and critical infrastructure.
Authorities advised people to monitor official warnings, avoid unnecessary travel near swollen waterways and move to safer locations if water rises rapidly.
Meanwhile, Forestry and Environment Minister Gita Chaudhary called for climate justice and stronger international attention to mountain risks.
She said Nepal must raise the issue globally and seek compensation for climate-related damage, stressing that government efforts alone cannot address the wider climate crisis.
