After a week of intense conflict, peace appears to be creeping into the world. This coming week will see some important events. Here are the following:
1. Brazilian President’s visit to India
The Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro will be the chief guest during the 71 st Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi on January 26th.
As part of the bilateral visit, the two sides are expected to further discuss areas for intensified cooperation in matter related to dairy farming, South-South cooperation amongst others.
2. Berlin Peace conference
Germany will host a peace conference that will Sim to find an everlasting solution to the violent Libyan crisis. This conference will see the participation of Russia, Turkey and the warring factions in Libya amongst others.
Libya is an energy-rich nation. India imports crude oil from it.
The UN recognized “national government” is fighting militants and recently lost the port city of Sirte.
Turkey is exploring an option to send troops into the disputed territories of the nation.
3. Trump’s impeachment
The US Senate will commence the removal process against President Donald Trump on Tuesday.
The President faces two charges of constitutional impropriety and obstruction of the functioning of the Congress.
The Senate will order a trial and the entire process will be supervised by the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court.
4. Coup amongst the coup-makers
Pakistan is in turmoil as General Qamar Bajwa, recently got an extension for a period of three years.
It is expected that over 30 Generals will retire during this period, without getting an opportunity to rise to the TOP.
Bajwa’s successor Lt General Sarfraz is said to have been put under house arrest and other Generals who were seen to be threats to the incumbent have been transferred.
The situation needs to be monitored closely.
5. Davos Summit
The annual Davos Summit hosted by the World Economic Forum is a gathering of industrialists, bankers and policymakers from across the world.
It is held annually in Switzerland. It will commence this week.
Amongst others, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa will be participating this time.
