Nitin Gadkari, road transport and highways minister, shared a picture of the Goa-Karnataka four-lane coastal highway on twitter. The 187-km long stretch moves through a variety of terrains. It moves along Arabian Sea coast on one side and the Western Ghats on the other, it has 24-km strech of mountainous terrain and 45-km of rolling terrain. This highway offers beautiful views throughout the stretch.
According to Gadkari in the post, this highway will reduce travel time, prevent accidents, optimise vehicle operating costs, reduce congestion for inter-and intra-state commuters. He mentioned that the highway is an important costal Highway link between western South India, as he named it the foundation pillar of the new India and world class infrastructure.
The highway runs from the state of Karnataka’s Kundapur section of NH 17 to the border between Goa and Karnataka. The coastal highway connects major cities and towns along with the way including places such as Panvel, Chiplun, Karwar, Udupi, Surathkal, Ratnagiri, Panaji, Margao, Mangalore, Kozhikode, Kochi, Thiruvananthampuram, and Kanyakumari.
Gadkari added in the tweet that the four-laning of the highway is nearing completion, with 92.42% work already completed and that the traffic is open on highway.
