Date:

New York: Novak Djokovic will miss the upcoming US Open because he is not vaccinated against COVID-19 and will not be allowed to travel to the United States.

Novak Djokovic took to Twitter and announced that “Sadly, I will not be able to travel to NY this time for the US Open.” He further wished good luck to the other players who are set to join the tournament.

Stacey Allaster, Director, US Open Tournament in a statement said that “Novak is a great champion and it is very unfortunate that he will be unable to compete at the 2022 US Open.”

He further cited the reason for his withdrawal from the tournament and added that “he is unable to enter the country due to the federal government’s vaccination policy for non-US citizens.”

He further added that the authorities look forward to welcoming him back in the 2023 US Open.
