In a match that had all the makings of a classic, Royal Challengers Bangalore pulled off their highest successful run chase in IPL history, hunting down a daunting 228-run target with 8 balls to spare. The hero of the night? Jitesh Sharma — whose fearless 85 off just 33 deliveries lit up the Chinnaswamy Stadium and sealed a memorable win against Lucknow Super Giants.

RCB’s chase initially seemed to be slipping when Virat Kohli’s dismissal left them needing 105 runs off the last 52 balls. But what followed was a stunning counterattack from Jitesh, who took the game away from LSG with audacious strokeplay and composure beyond his years. His innings included a flurry of boundaries and sixes, breaking the morale of LSG’s bowling attack, already reeling from lapses in the field.
Jitesh also had a bit of luck on his side — a no-ball reprieve after being caught gave him a lifeline, but by then, the damage was largely done. He had already shifted the momentum decisively in RCB’s favour.
Mayank Agarwal, who had failed in the previous outing, redeemed himself under pressure. His early boundaries provided stability during the powerplay, and after Kohli’s exit, he smartly switched gears to play the perfect supporting role to Jitesh. The duo’s partnership kept the required rate under control and ensured there were no late hiccups.
Lucknow Super Giants will rue their fielding performance — a series of fumbles, missed stops, and general sloppiness in the field proved costly in such a high-scoring thriller. Their bowlers, too, lacked discipline at crucial junctures and failed to capitalise when the game briefly tilted in their favour.
But the night belonged to Jitesh Sharma. Coming in when RCB were under pressure, he played with freedom, flair, and fearlessness — delivering what will go down as one of the most impactful knocks in the franchise’s history.
