Paris: In a remarkable achievement, India’s Deepthi Jeevanji secured a bronze medal in the women’s 400m T20 category race at the Paris Paralympics. The 20-year-old athlete clocked an impressive time of 55.82 seconds.
Deepthi’s performance placed her third on the podium, trailing behind Yuliia Shuliar of Ukraine, who finished in 55.16 seconds, and Turkey’s world record holder Aysel Onder, who clocked 55.23 seconds. The T20 category is specifically designed for athletes with intellectual impairments, making Deepthi’s achievement even more significant.

Deepthi’s journey to the Paralympics has been nothing short of extraordinary. She made history as the first Indian athlete with an intellectual impairment to compete in the Paralympic Games.
She captured the world’s attention by winning the World Championship in Kobe with a world record run of 55.07 seconds. Additionally, she claimed gold at the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023, where she clocked 56.69 seconds to secure the top spot.
Earlier, India had an impressive show at the Paralympics 2024 on Monday after winning 8 medals in a single day at the ongoing event, including 2 gold medals by men’s javelin thrower Sumit Antil and shuttler Nitesh Kumar.
