This achievement made Preeti the first Indian woman athlete to win two medals in track and field events at either the Paralympics or the Olympics. Her earlier bronze came in the T35 100m race, where she recorded a personal best of 14.21 seconds.
The weekend also saw stellar performances from other Indian athletes. On Saturday, Rubina secured a bronze in the P2-Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 final with a score of 211.1 points. The day before, Avani Lekhara, the reigning Paralympic champion, struck gold in the women’s 10m air rifle event, setting a personal best of 249.7 points.
Shooter Mona Agarwal also added to India’s medal count by winning bronze in the same event. Additionally, Manish Narwal brought home a silver in the men’s P1 10m air pistol SH1 competition, further bolstering India’s position in shooting events.
This year, India has sent its largest-ever Paralympic contingent, with 84 athletes competing across 12 sports. The participation marks a significant increase in both numbers and medal aspirations, as the nation aims to surpass its previous achievements from the Tokyo Games.
