Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles will attend the World Cup cricket final between India and Australia to be played in Ahmedabad on Sunday, officials said.
According to an official statement, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a high-level meeting in Gandhinagar on Friday to supervise security and logistical preparations for the cricket match scheduled at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles will attend the match on Sunday. Chief Minister Patel reviewed security and other arrangements with top officials,” the release said.
As per the statement, police officials briefed the CM on the extensive measures in place to ensure the smooth execution of the match. This includes deploying 4,500 personnel to secure the stadium, teams, VIPs, and manage traffic.
The CM directed officials to prevent inconvenience to the public during VIP movements and emphasized the importance of providing advance information about closed roads and diversions.
The CM also asked officials to enhance the frequency of metro trains heading towards Motera station (near the stadium) to accommodate the convenience of fans arriving from various parts of the country and abroad.
