Both the men’s and women’s teams made the nation proud by securing gold medals in the open section category, marking a milestone for Indian chess on the global stage.
The Indian Prime Minister engaged in a lively interaction with the teams. PM Modi also had the opportunity to witness a quick match between two of India’s chess prodigies, Arjun Erigaisi and R Praggnanandhaa, before holding a discussion with the teams to commend their remarkable performance.

The Prime Minister had previously lauded their achievement on X (formerly Twitter), saying their “historic success marks a new chapter in Indian sport.”

The Indian men’s team, which included top players such as Gukesh D, Praggnanandhaa R, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrathi, Pentala Harikrishna, and team captain Srinath Narayanan, dominated the tournament, securing the gold after a decisive final match against Slovenia.
Led by Harika Dronavalli and featuring Vaishali Rameshbabu, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agrawal, Tania Sachdev, and captain Abhijit Kunte, the women’s team overcame tough challenges from Kazakhstan and the United States to claim their gold medal.
