Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar on Wednesday confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been formally invited to visit Israel, with both sides working toward finalising the visit. While specific dates have not yet been announced, Azar said preparations are underway and an official declaration will be made at an appropriate time.
“The invitation has been extended. We are preparing, and in due time, there will be declarations regarding the specific date,” Azar said on the sidelines of an event marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day in New Delhi.

Highlighting the momentum in bilateral relations, the ambassador described India–Israel ties as deeply strategic and said 2025 has emerged as a particularly significant year for cooperation between the two countries. According to Azar, the partnership has been strengthened through frequent ministerial engagements and the conclusion of several key agreements.
He noted that both sides have signed a bilateral investment treaty and important security agreements, while discussions are progressing on finalising a free trade agreement and related financial protocols. Counter-terrorism cooperation, he added, continues to remain a central pillar of the relationship.
“We have had an exceptional year in 2025 with many ministerial meetings and visits,” Azar said. “Several agreements have already been signed, and we are keen to finalise the free trade agreement and conclude financial protocols. Security cooperation is also advancing, with another agreement expected to be signed soon.”
Looking ahead, the ambassador expressed confidence that the partnership will continue to deepen in the coming years. “This relationship is strategic for both countries, and we are committed to enhancing it further as we move into 2026,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi last visited Israel in 2017. A potential return visit would be seen as a significant step in reinforcing political, economic and security ties between New Delhi and Tel Aviv.
