PM Modi, President Biden Hold Telephonic Conversation; Discuss Ukraine, Safety Of Minorities In Bangladesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden held a telephone conversation, focusing on the deepening ties between both nations and pressing global issues.

Taking to X (Formerly Twitter) PM Modi wrote, “Spoke to US President Joe Biden on phone today. We had a detailed exchange of views on various regional and global issues, including the situation in Ukraine. I reiterated India’s full support for early return of peace and stability.”

During the call, Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude for President Biden’s commitment to the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

A major topic of discussion was the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Prime Minister Modi, who recently returned from a visit to Ukraine, provided President Biden with insights from his trip. PM Modi reaffirmed India’s consistent stance advocating for dialogue and diplomacy as the primary means to resolve the crisis. PM Modi also emphasized India’s full support for a swift return to peace and stability in the region.

The leaders also turned their attention to the escalating situation in Bangladesh. Both PM Modi and President Biden voiced deep concern over the unrest, particularly the threats to the safety and security of minorities, including the Hindu community. They underscored the importance of restoring law and order in Bangladesh and expressed their commitment to supporting efforts to ensure the protection of all communities.

Both leaders reiterated their dedication to enhancing cooperation in multilateral forums, including the Quad, a strategic alliance involving India, the United States, Japan, and Australia.
