New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said he held a “productive conversation” with US President Donald Trump during which the two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, energy and critical technologies.
In a post on X, Modi said the discussions also covered other areas of cooperation between India and the United States, with both leaders agreeing to maintain close engagement to advance the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
“Had a productive conversation with President Trump. We reviewed our bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, energy, critical technologies and other areas,” Modi said.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including ongoing efforts aimed at advancing global peace and security, Modi said.

The conversation comes amid continued efforts by New Delhi and Washington to deepen economic and strategic ties. Trade remains a key area of engagement, with India and the US continuing negotiations on a proposed bilateral trade agreement. India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is currently scheduled to visit the US through Oct. 5 for talks aimed at advancing the negotiations.
Modi and Trump had last met in person on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Evian, France, in June. During that meeting, the two leaders reviewed progress in defence, strategic technologies, energy and bilateral trade and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
The latest conversation also comes as both countries seek to expand cooperation in emerging and strategic technologies, energy security and defence. Previous India-US engagements have highlighted areas including critical technologies, semiconductors, clean energy and resilient supply chains.

According to Saurabh Shukla, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of NewsMobile, sustained diplomatic engagement, high-level meetings and a potential summit between the two leaders could help address issues surrounding Russia sanctions and the next phase of the trade deal.
Neither leader announced a specific new agreement following Wednesday’s conversation. Modi’s remarks, however, underscored the intent of both sides to maintain high-level engagement across economic, security, technology and global issues.
