Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Johannesburg on November 21 to attend the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on Wednesday. South Africa, the host of this year’s gathering, will welcome global leaders for a three-day summit that continues the recent trend of G20 meetings being held in the Global South.
The MEA noted that with four consecutive summits now hosted by emerging economies, the grouping is increasingly reflecting the priorities and voices of developing nations in international decision-making.
During his stay from November 21 to 23, Prime Minister Modi will participate in all three key sessions of the summit, where he is expected to outline India’s approach to major global issues. The agenda includes deliberations on inclusive and sustainable economic growth, with particular attention to trade facilitation, development financing, and the mounting global debt burden.
Another session will focus on building resilience in the face of climate change and other transnational challenges, including disaster risk reduction, food system security, and equitable energy transitions. The final session will address the future of work and technology, touching on critical minerals, labour standards, and the governance of artificial intelligence.
PM Modi’s programme also includes a series of bilateral meetings with fellow world leaders on the sidelines of the summit. In addition, he will join counterparts from Brazil and South Africa for the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Leaders’ Meeting, a trilateral engagement aimed at strengthening cooperation among the three major democracies of the Global South.
