PM Modi To Host US Vice President JD Vance For Talks, Dinner; Visit To Jaipur, Agra On Agenda

Date:

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance for bilateral talks followed by a dinner on Monday evening, officials familiar with the matter said, as the American leader embarks on a four-day visit to India with a focus on trade, tariffs and strategic ties.

Vance, who will be accompanied by his Indian-origin wife Usha and their three children — Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel — is scheduled to land at Palam airbase in New Delhi at 10 a.m. on Monday. A senior Union minister will receive the delegation, which includes at least five senior U.S. officials from the Pentagon and the State Department.

The Vances will stay at the ITC Maurya hotel in the capital. Shortly after their arrival, they are expected to visit the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple, and may also explore a local market offering traditional Indian handicrafts.

The highlight of the day will be a 6:30 p.m. meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Vice President Vance. Talks are expected to center on the early finalization of the long-pending India-U.S. bilateral trade agreement and bolstering overall ties under the Donald Trump administration.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and Indian Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra will join Modi in the discussions. A formal dinner for the Vances and the accompanying officials will follow.

The Vances are scheduled to travel to Jaipur late Monday night. Their itinerary includes a visit to the UNESCO-listed Amer Fort on April 22, followed by an address by the vice president at the Rajasthan International Centre. The speech is expected to touch upon key aspects of the India-U.S. partnership and will be attended by diplomats, scholars, and Indian officials.

On April 23, the family will head to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal and Shilpgram, an artisan village showcasing Indian crafts. They will return to Jaipur the same evening and are expected to stay at the Rambagh Palace, a former royal guesthouse turned luxury hotel.

The visit will conclude on April 24, when the Vances depart for the United States from Jaipur.

The trip marks Vice President Vance’s first official visit to India and underscores growing engagement between Washington and New Delhi.
