Washington, DC: US Vice President Kamala Harris has narrowed the lead of former President Donald Trump in seven crucial battleground states, according to a report by The Hill. This development comes roughly a week after Harris emerged as the likely Democratic nominee for the 2024 presidential election.
A recent Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll indicates a tight race between Harris and Trump across these battleground states, with Harris receiving 48 percent support and Trump close behind with 47 percent. The poll reflects a significant shift from earlier results in July, where Trump had a 2-point lead over President Biden and led in five out of seven key states.
The poll reveals that Harris and Trump each have strong leads in individual swing states. Harris has an 11-point advantage over Trump in Michigan, a 2-point lead in both Nevada and Arizona, and another 2-point lead in Wisconsin. Conversely, Trump leads Harris by 4 points in Pennsylvania and 2 points in North Carolina. The candidates are tied in Georgia, each with 47 percent support.
The survey, conducted from July 24 to 28, included 4,973 registered voters and has a margin of error of 1 percentage point. The results suggest that Harris’s candidacy has injected significant momentum into the Democratic Party following President Biden’s withdrawal from the race.
Harris quickly garnered substantial support from Democrats after Biden’s exit, raising over USD 200 million in her first week as a presidential candidate. Other polls conducted since Harris’s likely nomination also show a competitive race between her and Trump. Despite these positive indicators, Harris has characterized her campaign as the underdog in the face-off against the former president.
