Punjab Kings (PBKS) scripted history on Monday night by securing a place in the top two of the IPL points table for the first time in over a decade. The landmark moment came after a dominant seven-wicket win against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, powered by superb half-centuries from Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis.

Chasing a challenging target of 185, PBKS displayed composure and confidence as they cruised to victory with nine balls to spare. The triumph ensured their qualification for Qualifier 1, giving them two chances to reach the final — a massive advantage in the playoffs. Meanwhile, MI will now have to battle it out in Eliminator 1.
PBKS openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh began cautiously against a disciplined MI attack, managing just 18 runs in the first three overs. A reprieve for Prabhsimran in the fourth over, dropped by MI’s impact player Ashwani Kumar, was short-lived, as Jasprit Bumrah sent him back in the fifth over for 13.
Josh Inglis then joined Arya, and the two stitched together a match-winning stand. The duo accelerated seamlessly, bringing up their 50-run partnership in just 29 balls. At the halfway mark, PBKS looked in command at 89/1, with Inglis on 35 and Arya on 37.
Inglis took charge in the 11th over, hammering Ashwani Kumar for three consecutive boundaries. He reached his maiden IPL fifty in the 12th over off 30 balls, with Arya following suit moments later. Their 100-run stand came up in the 14th over, setting PBKS firmly on course.
Mitchell Santner finally broke the stand, dismissing Arya for a well-made 62 off 35 balls — an innings studded with nine boundaries and two maximums. Inglis, however, continued to dominate, reaching 73 before Santner struck again in the 17th over.
Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera then calmly steered PBKS towards victory. With just 39 needed off the final five overs, Iyer took control, sealing the win with a towering six off Trent Boult in the 19th over.
For MI, it was a tough night with the ball. Santner (2/41) was the only bowler to make notable inroads, while Bumrah’s typically economical spell (1/23) kept things tight early on. However, the lack of breakthroughs in the middle overs cost MI dearly.
