New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday said that Rahul Gandhi will be the Prime Ministerial candidate of the Congress party in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Speaking to India Today/Aaj Tak, Gehlot said that the current situation in the country has united 26 parties to take on the BJP. “The public has created such pressure, resulting in an alliance of all parties,” he said.
The Rajasthan CM reminded the BJP not to become “arrogant” as the saffron party in 2014 came to power with 31 per cent votes. “The remaining 69 per cent were against him,” he added. Gehlot stated that the NDA got “scared” after the Bengaluru meeting of the Opposition bloc INDIA.
On asking his views about the NDA gearing up to return to power with 50 per cent votes in 2024, he said, “PM Modi will never be able to achieve that. When Modi was at the peak of his popularity, he couldn’t secure 50% of the votes. His vote share will decrease and the results of the 2024 elections will determine who becomes the Prime Minister,” he said.
The Rajasthan Chief Minister then said that Modi became PM in 2014 “because of Congress”. He slammed the Prime Minister for claiming that the BJP would come to power again in 2024.
“This decision should be made by the people, and everyone should respect their choice. PM Modi’s made many promises but the public knows what happened to them,” he said.
Gehlot also attributed Chandrayaan-3’s successful Moon landing to former PMs Jawahar Lal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.
