The much-anticipated clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) ended in disappointment as rain forced the first no-result of IPL 2025 at Eden Gardens. Despite a strong batting display from PBKS, the weather had the final say.
Punjab’s openers, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, gave their side a powerful start, both notching up half-centuries and laying a solid foundation. However, Kolkata fought back admirably in the death overs, with Andre Russell and Vaibhav Arora delivering tight spells to restrict the visitors to 201. The usually reliable spin duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy had a rare off day, conceding nearly nine runs an over.
In response, KKR managed to complete just one over before the heavens opened up. Persistent rain meant there was no chance of resumption, forcing the umpires to call off the game.
While both sides would have hoped for a full match, the shared points could prove crucial, especially for PBKS as they push for a spot in the playoffs.
