New Delhi: Rishi Sunak, the former chancellor of the UK is leading and has won the first round of voting as Conservative Party leader and the next UK Prime Minister, reports Reuters.
According to a report by Reuters, Rishi Sunak received 88 votes at the end of the first round. Penny Mordaunt is second with 67 votes, followed by Truss Liz with 50 votes.
Jeremy Hunt and current Finance Minister Nadhim Zahawi are eliminated from the race after the end of the first round.
Suella Braverman, an Indian-origin member of Parliament and Attorney General is still part of the race.
According to reports, the next Prime Minister and successor of Boris Johnson will be announced on September 5th. The next round of counting is scheduled for Thursday by the conservative members.
