In the aftermath of the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 tourists, security has been significantly intensified across Bihar ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the state on April 24.
The tragic incident, which unfolded on Tuesday in the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam, involved indiscriminate firing by terrorists, leaving over 20 people killed and dozens injured. According to an official communication from Bihar Director General of Police Vinay Kumar, preliminary reports suggest that the victims were targeted based on their community identity — a claim that has sparked concern nationwide.
In response, the Bihar police have issued stringent security directives, with a special focus on the sensitive India-Nepal border areas. The alert highlights the possibility of threats emanating from active sleeper cells in districts such as Darbhanga and Madhubani — both of which are on the Prime Minister’s itinerary. Historically, these regions have witnessed sporadic activities linked to separatist and terrorist elements.
“The presence of sleeper cells of terrorist groups with a separatist background cannot be ruled out in the border districts of the state,” the DGP’s order noted, urging intelligence units and law enforcement agencies to maintain heightened surveillance and coordination. All known suspects and individuals with a history of involvement in such activities are to be kept under close and continuous watch.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Madhubani and Darbhanga on April 24 to mark National Panchayati Raj Day. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the visit will include the inauguration, foundation laying, and dedication of multiple development projects worth over ₹13,480 crore.
During the event, PM Modi will also present the National Panchayat Awards, an initiative to honour top-performing Panchayats across the country. He is expected to address a large gathering on the importance of grassroots governance and rural development.
