Tharoor-Led All-Party Delegation Meets US Vice President JD Vance

Date:

In a significant diplomatic outreach, the all-party Indian delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor met with U.S. Vice President JD Vance on Thursday, as part of India’s continuing engagement with American stakeholders under its recently launched diplomatic initiative, Operation Sindoor.

Tharoor shared details of the meeting in a post on social media platform X, describing the interaction as “constructive and productive.” He wrote, “We had comprehensive discussions covering a wide array of critical issues, from counter-terrorism efforts to enhancing technological cooperation. A truly constructive & productive exchange for strengthening India-US strategic partnership, with a great meeting of minds.”

The delegation’s visit comes in the backdrop of a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Operation Sindoor was launched to counter terrorism and misinformation globally, and the delegation is actively briefing U.S. lawmakers, diplomats, and diaspora members on India’s counter-terror strategies and concerns.

Before arriving in the U.S., the group concluded a diplomatic visit to Brazil. In Washington, the delegation held several high-level meetings with Congressional leaders. On June 4, they met with the House Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, which included Co-Chairs Rep. Ro Khanna and Rep. Rich McCormick, and Vice Co-Chairs Rep. Andy Barr and Rep. Marc Veasey.

They also engaged in a special session with the leadership of the House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC), hosted by Chairman Rep. Brian Mast and Ranking Member Rep. Gregory Meeks. Additional participants included HFAC’s South and Central Asia Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Bill Huizenga, Ranking Member Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove, East Asia & Pacific Subcommittee Chairperson Rep. Young Kim, and Ranking Member Rep. Ami Bera.

In another notable meeting, the delegation met Rep. Lisa McClain, Chairwoman of the House Republican Conference and the highest-ranking woman in the 119th Congress.

Alongside Tharoor, the delegation includes a broad political spectrum — Shambhavi Chaudhary (Lok Janshakti Party), Sarfaraz Ahmed (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), G M Harish Balayogi (Telugu Desam Party), BJP MPs Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejasvi Surya, and Bhubaneswar Kalita, Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena), Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora, and former Indian Ambassador to the U.S., Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
