New Delhi: Indonesia was hit by a third earthquake within hours on Saturday, as authorities continued rescue and relief efforts following two earlier quakes that caused deaths and widespread damage.

The National Center for Seismology said a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck the Gulf of Tomini at 21:55 IST, at a depth of 68 kilometres.
It followed a magnitude 6.5 earthquake in the afternoon and a powerful 7.7-magnitude quake earlier in the morning. The first major quake struck the Flores region and triggered a tsunami warning.
Indonesian authorities said at least 38 people had died, while two people suffered serious injuries and 11 others sustained minor injuries. Around 2,000 people evacuated from their homes.
Rescue teams were also searching for two villagers believed to be trapped beneath mud after an earthquake-triggered landslide. Officials reported collapsed buildings, severe damage and power cuts that disrupted communications and rescue operations.
The Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency deployed a helicopter to support emergency response and logistics, particularly because the affected region consists of numerous islands.
