‘Totally Unacceptable’, Trump Slams Iran’s Response To US Peace Proposal

Date:

Washington DC: US President Donald Trump on Sunday sharply criticised Iran’s response to a US-backed proposal aimed at ending escalating hostilities in West Asia, calling Tehran’s position “totally unacceptable” as regional tensions continue to mount.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he was dissatisfied with the reply conveyed by Iran’s representatives regarding ongoing diplomatic efforts to restore peace in the Gulf region.

“I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” Trump wrote, without elaborating further on the specifics of Tehran’s message.

The remarks came shortly after Iranian state media confirmed that Tehran had submitted its response to the latest American proposal through Pakistani intermediaries. According to the state-run IRNA news agency, the communication focused on halting the ongoing conflict and reducing tensions across the region.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran sent today, through Pakistani mediators, its response to the latest text proposed by the United States to end the war,” IRNA reported, adding that discussions at this stage would centre on ending regional hostilities.

Reports suggest Iran’s proposal includes demands for the lifting of US sanctions, an end to the blockade on Iranian ports, and the withdrawal of American military forces from the region. Tehran has also reportedly called for a cessation of all hostilities, including an end to Israel’s military operations in Lebanon.

The diplomatic developments unfold amid a worsening security environment in the Gulf. Iran recently warned Washington that it may abandon its policy of strategic restraint in response to mounting regional pressure and military activity. The warning coincided with reports of fresh maritime tensions, including an attack on a cargo vessel headed toward Qatar.

Trump’s latest comments also follow his criticism of previous US administrations, which he accused of adopting weak policies toward Tehran and indirectly helping strengthen the Iranian regime financially.

In an interview aired Sunday with independent journalist Sharyl Attkisson, Trump claimed the United States is closely monitoring Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles and warned that any attempt by Tehran to access sensitive nuclear facilities would invite an immediate military response.

Speaking on the broader conflict, Trump asserted that Iran’s military infrastructure had been severely degraded.

“They have no navy, no air force, they have no anti-aircraft weaponry, no leaders,” he said, claiming Iran’s capabilities had been systematically dismantled. Trump further argued that even if hostilities ended immediately, Tehran would take “20 years to rebuild.”

The US President also suggested that American military operations in the region may continue, estimating that nearly 70 per cent of intended targets had already been struck.

Reiterating his long-held opposition to Iran acquiring nuclear weapons, Trump said the international community could not allow what he described as a “crazy” regime to possess atomic capabilities.
