In what is being termed a pivotal moment for the US presidential election campaign, former President Donald Trump and Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris engaged in a face off with each other in a first televised debate in Pennsylvania ahead of the November elections.
The debate has now concluded. What began with a handshake, descended into acrimony as Donald Trump and Kamala Harris traded barbs over the economy, immigration, abortion, national security and a lot more.
For the 1 hour and 45 minutes of the entire debate, Kamala Harris baited Trump and Trump also took every bit of it.
Topics/Issues in focus:
- Harris and Trump faced off on multiple foreign policy issues including the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, a potential cease-fire deal in Gaza and the war in Ukraine.
- Harris and Trump discussed economy at length. Harris focused on the future, touting her plan to build what she’s called an “opportunity economy” while Trump emphasised on a period of sharp inflation that has now eased but many Americans are still bearing the brunt of inflation.
- Another topic in focus for abortion rights.
While Trump and Harris went back and forth on the issues, they also took personal jabs at each other. While Harris targeted Trump for the crowd sizes at his rallies, Trump joked that he was going to send the vice president one of his red hats based on her current stances.
When Trump tried comparing Harris to Biden, Harris retorted saying she is not Biden.
“I’m not Joe Biden. I’m not Donald Trump. What I do offer is new generation of leadership for our country”, said Harris.
