Trump touted the website, America.gov, during an event at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington.
He thanked Joe Gebbia, the Airbnb co-founder who now leads the National Design Studio (NDS) and services as the first-ever U.S. chief design officer, for being the “mastermind behind many of the incredible breakthroughs.”
“It’s the ultimate product. It’s called America when you think about it,” Trump said. “With America.gov, the federal government no longer stands in your way, and it stands only at your service. And that’s what we’re doing. We’re simplifying it. We’re glamorizing it. We’re making it what it should be.”
What Exactly Does America.gov Do?
1. Ask Questions In Plain Language
Users can simply type or speak their questions instead of searching through different government websites and thousands of forms. The platform is designed to understand conversational questions and provide answers.
2. Get Information From Official Sources
America.gov says its answers are sourced from official government websites. Users can also see citations and links to the original government sources behind the information.
3. One Digital Door To Government Services
The platform is designed to bring information from different federal government services into one place, so users don’t have to navigate multiple agency websites separately.
4. No Account Needed For Basic Searches
The platform is free to use and does not require users to create an account or log in for basic searches. It also states that it does not store chat history.
5. Available In Multiple Languages
Users can ask questions through text or voice in *English, Spanish and French*, making the service accessible to a wider audience.
6. Future Government Services In One Place
The current version mainly focuses on finding information and answering questions. Future updates are expected to allow users to complete certain government transactions directly through the platform.
7. Passport And Medicare Services
Future capabilities mentioned include services such as *passport renewal and Medicare enrollment*, allowing users to complete these tasks through America.gov rather than navigating separate websites.
8. Federal Agencies To Be Integrated
President Trump signed an executive order requiring federal agencies to integrate their public-facing online services into the platform as quickly as possible.
9. Built With A Privacy Focus
The platform says it is designed with privacy and security in mind, including not storing chat history for basic searches.
The president said this project has been in the works since the early days of his second administration.
“Instead of forcing citizens to search through the endless maze of tens of thousands of terrible government websites and rules, and more than 10,000 forms … you’ll now have one front door for every single question,” he said.
He said “in theory” the website cannot be hacked into.
“It’s built from the ground up with your privacy and security totally in mind,” Trump said. “To ensure that your personal information is not collected or stored, and your conversation disappears when you leave, and everything stays totally private.”
