President Trump and first lady Melania Trump landed in Iraq on Wednesday for a surprise visit with troops and senior military leadership at Al Asad Air Base, making his first trip to troops stationed in a combat zone only days after announcing his intention to withdraw the United States from foreign wars in Syria and Afghanistan.
The president spoke to a group of about 100 mostly special forces personnel and separately with military leaders before leaving a few hours later, an AFP correspondent said.

Earlier, Trump announced the withdrawal of troops from Syria, later the Pentagon announced the withdrawal of around 7,000 troops from Afghanistan, amounting to the removal of half of the total US forces deployed in the country at present.
